Today (071120) was the day we left town for good. Thanks to Beth and Jimmy for putting us up in their driveway last night. We had a nice back yard hang until the rain picked up and we had to move it to the garage. We turned in around 8, plugged in to Jimmy and Beth’s garage. Just before they went in the house Jimmy asked if I’d like to see where the breaker was…just in case we tripped it.
We were excited to fire up the air conditioner and make some popcorn. It must have been the butter that put us over the edge. Mid pop, the air popper stopped, the AC stopped and the microwave stopped! Oh well, the house was dark and Pam was sure we tanked the whole place but I could still hear the Air conditioner in the house. We fired up the generator and finished off the popcorn and had a good laugh.
I was up about 6 today. Pam was doing her exercises in bed shortly after. I started working on a job on my computer and made a cafe americano for the first time with the old espresso maker. I made some more coffee for Pammie in the press and shortly after that we got a text from Beth asking if we’d like some eggs and home fries. Jimmy delivered a couple plates of eggs, home fries and toast. Dang! The eggs were fluffy, the home fries crispy and perfectly cooked. Yessah!
After breakfast we took off to the Eliot PO for the address change, the storage unit for a few extra clothing items, Eliot Agway for a final propane blast and then up to Village Motors in South Berwick to sign off on the Jetta. Back down to Portsmouth for a hairdo at the Clip Joint.
We parked in Kittery across from Loco Coco’s and rode bikes into town. I stopped on Daniel Street and Pammie went flying by headed for Piscataqua Savings bank and to pick up some cash for clothes she had sold at a thrift store in town.
I got a text from Zach asking if I was in town and we agreed to meet for lunch at Loco Coco’s. After getting a shearing from Julie at the Clip Joint I rode back to Kittery. Just as I was putting my bike back on the camper, Pammie came riding up with a big smile on her face. She loves her bike! Me too!
We had a great lunch with Zach and Nick. I’m going to miss those gents very much! We said our goodbyes and then we hit the road for real! Last ride over the “middle bridge” for a long time. Last ride down route one bypass for a long time. When Pam and I first spent time together it was at the Cutts Mansion off the bypass by Buzzie’s truck stop. Holy shit. over 30 years ago!
Last time around the Portsmouth traffic circle for a while. Last time down 95, through the Hampton toll and off on 495. No particular plan other than possibly meeting my nephew in Silver Spring, MD at some point. Possibly Sunday.
Near Sturbridge I got off the highway and headed towards Sturbridge. We wandered and meandered through Brimley, off a couple side roads and into Connecticut at some point. We stopped at a lake and had a snack. Then headed back out to the highway.
Shortly after getting on the highway, Pam found us a spot at Cabela’s in East Hartford. We found the overnight parking spots out back and what should we see but a fellow Mainer out there! No matter where you go, there you are! Okay. We’ll see ya!
