Color is a funky trio with Jamie Decato on drums, Chris Decato on Keys and Bass and Myself on the saxomophones. This group grew out of another band called “Tongue & Groove” which featured the inimitable Jerry Tillet on guitar and vocals, Peter Black on Bass and Vocals and Chris Elliot on Trumpet & Vocals. T&G was a funky group in a cajun, zydeco, New Orleans kinda bag as was the brainchild of Mr. Tillet. As the group evolved, the band originals went in a more hip hoppy kinda, straighter funk vein.
One summer afternoon in Ogunquit, Maine, T&G found themselves playing a wedding reception! Zoinkz!? What to do!?!!? Nobody knew enough tunes to get through a dinner set. No problem, Langley and the Decatos decided to make some dinner music up on the spot. The inevitable onslaught from the bride and groom turned into accolades, a disaster was averted and Color was born.
Ten years later, give or take a couple, Jamie, Chris and Matt are still enjoying getting together, writing tunes, making CD’s and doing a gig or two at the Press Room. This CD was put together for the Wire’s RPM Challenge in which you write, record and release a CD in the Month of February. Great time in the frozen north to be hunkered down creating some new music. This group could have easily improvised two or three CD’s rather quickly but we decided to do something different and write a collection of shorter tunes. I think the results were great and I hope you enjoy the music. Let me know what you think!
