Sunset on Great Pond in Belgrade Maine Just got back from a week in Belgrade Maine with my family. Great Pond is one of our favorite places and this week the weather and scenery were incredible. If you get a chance, take a drive up to Augusta and then take route 27 out to Belgrade. There are a bunch of lakes out that way and they are all beautiful, clean and not too crowded.

Some highlights in August; We’ll be at the Dogfish Grill THREE TIMES this month…the 3rd, 17th and the 31st. Please join Curtis Clark, Jan Van Voorst, Jim Lyden and myself for some great music, great food and a beverage or two. Thursday the 9th, I’ll be at 1 Longfellow Square – fomerly the Center for Cultural Exchange in Porltand – with Tom Whitehead, Andy Rice and Dustin Levasseur. Andy and Dustin are headed off to make their mark on the world shortly so this will be a good time to check out this quartet. August 13th the David Tonkin Quartet is back at the Barley House in Concord, NH for a rollicking good time. You never know who might stop in to sit in on that gig – Randy Roos, Richard Gardzina, and others have joined us in the past.

August 14th, the Charlie Kohlhase Explorer’s Club packs up the truck and heads off to NYC to John Zorn’s The Stone to present some of Charlie’s music we recently recorded for Boxholder. Charlie opens the night playing duets with Guitarist Duck Baker. Thursday the 16th, John Grady subs for Larry Simon’s beat night at the Press Room in Portsmouth with his Beats Then and Now show. Should be a hoot!

That should do it for now. Go out and support live music…you’ll be glad you did and so will all the musicians!

Taylor & PamFriday night, June 15th, Mr. Taylor Matthew Langley will walk across the podium at Marshwood High School and accept his diploma representing the culmination of 12 years of primary school! Pam, Erin and I are extremely proud of you Taylor and will be there in the stands to witness the proceedings with JOY! Great job Taylor, we LOVE YOU MADLY! Taylor will be attending UMASS Amhearst in the fall. STAY TUNED!

OK…today felt like the first real day of summer to me. I took some time off this afternoon and went for a bike ride with Zach Joy up to Rollinsford and then, when he headed back towards Dover, I took the long way home. What an incredible day. Nice breeze, a little hazy. The ocean was stunning down on River Road. I felt bad for all those people screaming along the Spaulding Turnpike over the Dover Point bridge, tearing past the incredible beauty of Great Bay…hopefully they were all headed somewhere idyllic!

Anyway…I won’t make you wade through my ramblings any longer. Here’s some great stuff I have the good fortune of being involved with in the next couple of weeks. Friday, June 22nd at the Lotus Moon World Fusion Belly Dance Studio, Tim Webb and Avant Coast present “Out of Bounds” with Richard Gardzina, Rob Duquette, Luther Gray, Thom Keith, Tim Webb and myself. Should be a great show, c’mon out and support live music. Monday, June 25th, The Tim O’Dell/ Matt Langley Quartet is back at the Press Room. I’m looking forward to making some sounds with O’Dell and the boyz. Tim writes some wonderful music and Jim Lyden and Luther Gray bring it to life effortlessly. Friday, June 29th I’m back up at the Dogfish Grill in Portland Maine with good friend Jan Van Voorst Van Beest. With any luck, the inimitable Curtis Clark and Jim Lyden will be in the house as well. Saturday, June 30th….get the kids, take a picture…the COMBO SABROSO is back at the Press Room in Portsmouth. This could be the only hang of the summer with Alex Alvear, Ernesto Diaz, Manolo Marena, Scott Flynn and Matt Jenson so mark the calendar and plan for a steamy evening of latin dance music.Taking a peek into July…Monday, July 2nd I’m back at the Press Room with one of my new favorite piano players/improvisers/ muscians/north berwick maine residents…Mike Effenberger. Nate Edgar and Tom Arey will be in the house for a rockin’ good time…more latahhhh….get out and hear some music, breathe some air and enjoy life!
