  • time is flyin’

Whoa…I fell asleep at the keys and let some great music happen without letting you know here. My apologies. The FIRST EVER PMAC Jazz Night at the West End Theater was a sellout for two shows, The music was great and I gotta tell you, the entire faculty at PMAC, including the jazz faculty, of course, is TOP NOTCH. Thanks to all involved for making it a special night.
Here’s some upcoming stuff. COLOR has been out in the garage writing and recording tunes for the new RPM challenge. The recording and mixing are done. I’m working on the artwork, Chris is working on the mastering and we’re all tweakin’ titles and song order. We’ll be done soon but we’ll also play the music we have written and recorded LIVE at the Press Room on MONDAY, MARCH 3rd. This group hasn’t played out in way too long and tune writing has been sporadic at best past 10 years (holy !!@@!@#) but now we’ve got a pile of ’em! C’mon out and get a new COLOR CD too!!
Friday, March 7th I’ll be back up in Portland at the Dogfish grill with Jan Van Voorst. Haven’t been up in a while and this should be a good time. Come on up, or over, or down and enjoy some great food, music and ambiance.
Monday, March 10th the David Tonkin Quartet willl be back at the Barley House in Concord, NH. David, Don Willliams, Tim Gilmore and I will lay it down the way only this group can. Grab a booth and take part in the musical hijinx first hand.
Friday, March 14th the Combo Sabroso heads out to Holyoke, Ma for our annual St’ Patty’s Weekend Celebration at One City Square. Wanna make the hang? Contact me with the form on this site and I’ll hook you up. On the Combo Sabroso front, there are rumors of a regular gig this summer once a month at Brazo in Portsmouth (the site of the former Cyber Cafe – birthplace of the Combo!!)
Friday, March 21st I’ll attempt to humanize the lobby of a hotel with pianist Rob Dumais. It’s not an easy job but our years of practicing and performing put us in a unique position to communicate with the guests at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manchester as they seek the comfort of a plate of warm food followed by the intoxicating seclusion of their hotel room. Watch in awe as guests literally turn their head and….smile as they attempt to check in. Sorry…I’m half listening to a presidential debate in the background and some of the #$%^ they’re spewing is seeping into my cranium.
Some great stuff coming up in April too. Check the calendar in case I get forget to update you here! Thanks for visiting and supporting live music!

  • january thaw

First and foremost, I’m putting the “Big Head Bari” shot back up because I got so many requests to do so. So, there you go. The January thaw was welcome but now we’re freezing our butts off again. Here are a few shows you should check out to keep your ears warm and you spirits high!

FRIDAY, January 25th: Jazz in January at Concord Community Music School. The CCMS Jazz Faculty has put a great show together. Sets at 7PM and 9PM. Catering by Hermanos Mexican Cocina. Don’t miss it!

SUNDAY, JANUARY 2th: Pandelis Karayorgis Quintet at the Lily Pad. Pandelis is a wonderful pianist and composer and if you have’t heard his music you should make this gig. The band includes Pandelis on piano, Jeff Galindo on trombone, Jef Charland on Bass and Luther Gray on drums. The charts alone are a work of art!

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2nd: Matt Jenson’s Combo Sabroso at the Press Room (check out their swanky new website). This is always a pahhty but it will be a much better paahhhty with YOU there. C’mon down and get down Combo Sabroso styleee.

Also coming in february: Chris Humphrey Group at the NH Allstate Festival. Should be a hoot. Great band, great arrangements and tons of kids pumped on jazz!! Portsmouth Music and Arts Center Jazz Night at the West End Theater in Portsmouth. This is PMAC’s firsrt jazz faculty recital and it should be a great one. This is a wonderful faculty; Mike Effenberger, Nate Therrien, Chris Claxton, Chris Weissman, Brian Bergeron-Killough, Jose Duque, Russ Grazier and yours truly. The west end theater is a great spot to hear music too. What’s not to LIKE!
