  • Loving spring & all it brings

Rehearsal for PMAC Jazz Night – The Kids give Nate Therrien a listen…

Hey all. I’m spending an all too rare afternoon hanging out with my beautiful wife, puttering around the house, tying to get tie up a few loose ends and I’ve gotta say, I LOVE this time of year. Sure, I’ll have to start dragging the Zool out of the garage and gettin’ her ready for mowing season very soon (today!!!) but BRING IT ON! I can’t wait to be dripping with sweat pedaling around the yard, clippings flying off the reel, the only smoke in the air coming from my stogie and the neighbor’s brush fires. Hope to get off my doughy derriere and ride my road bike a bit this summer too. What about you? What’s on the horizon for your spring? Here’s some music for your listening pleasure, or otherwise!
Sunday, April 1st (Taylor Langley’s Birthday!!! – Happy Birthday TATES!!!) Mike Walsh/ MattLangley DuoDante’s Barrington, NH – Mike and I have done this once before and had a blast playing duo. Just calling tunes, sipping coffee…or a bloody…and having a great time. The food is KILLIN’ and it’s a nice sounding room with a very attentive staff. Truly a pleasure!
Monday, April 2nd, Matt Langley Quartet at The Press Room, Portsmouth, NH – This is really David Tonkin’s band but I hijacked us for a monday night at the Press Room. You’ve heard us a bunch in Concord but we sound different in Portsmouth! DOn’t believe me? I defy you to prove me wrong. Join Don Williams, David Tonkin, Tim Gilmore and myself at the Northeast’s premier music club, the Press Room in Portsmouth for some wicked good jazz, grub and suds.
Friday, April 6th, Skunk Hollow Jazz, Hartand VT – Peter Concilio has a scene going on up at this tavern in Hartland VT that is really special. People pack in to this tiny tavern, order up some food and drinks and then hang off every note the band sends out there! It’s a wonderful place to play. This night features Skunk Hollow regular and good friend Tim Gilmore on drums, another great pal o’ mine Tom Robinson on piano and Pete on bass and vocals. This gig is WORTH EVERY MINUTE of the trip!!
Saturday, April 7th, Fundraiser for Haiti Featuring Combo Sabroso, VFW Portsmouth, NH 7PM- This is Combo Sabroso’s third year doing this special event at the VFW in Portsmouth. Join Manolo Mairena, Alex Alvear, Matt Jenson, Scott Flynn and myself at this event to raise money for the Eben Ezer School in Milot, Haiti.
Sunday, April 8th, Easter Service, 2nd Christian Congregational Church, Kittery, ME 10AM – Join myself, music director Mike Effenberger, Jim Rudolf, the 2CCUCC choir and Reverend Brad Hirst for this special Easter Service featuring the music of Duke Ellington.
Sunday, April 8th, JOSA featuring Rebecca Parris, Eastman, Grantham, NH 4PM – The final show of the year at JOSA features the inimitable vocalist Rebecca Parris and the JOSA house band featuring Bill Wightman on piano, Tim Gilmore on Drums, Roger Kimball on Bass and myself on saxophones. Join us for a wonderful afternoon of music.
That’s enough for now. Some great stuff coming up too but I’ll keep you posted…we’d love to see you at one of these shows. Thanks for supporting live music, art, dance, theater and LIFE!!!

Sunday, March 4th – Dave Surrette “Mando Eclecticana” – The Barley Pub, Dover, NH 8PM –  Yup, you read that correctly…David Surrette is putting together a group for this night with Steve Roy, Jon Ross and myself.
