I started this post a week or so ago but got busy and fell behind. Thought you might enjoy some of the stuff I wrote below so I left it. In the meantime, there’s been some fun stuff going down and there’s more to come! Mother Superior and the Sliding Royales (I’m definitely a slider!) spent last weekend in Chris Chase’s studio up in Rollinsford laying down the tracks for a new CD to be coming out ASAP! The band sounded killer and we had a great, pretty relaxed time, recording the music we’ve been performing at live shows. Can’t wait to hear it all mixed, mastered and shakin’ up my car stereo speakers real soon!

Pam and I took another trip Friday night in search of a stealthy dinner/crash spot in the party van. We decided to head over to the Deerfield, NH area. After a little cruising around we came to Bear Brook State park. The gates were open but there were many “no camping” and “closed for the season” signs. We took a drive in to check out the scene. I know I’ve been to Bear Brook before but it’s been a loooong time. As far as I could tell, I’d never been in the area we were checking out before. We took a road that lead to the campground and I couldn’t imagine anyone else being anywhere near this area. We drove for a long ways until we reached a sign that said gate ahead. I drove a little further to see if this gate was open too and it was not so we turned around and headed for a little turnout that we had passed a little ways back. We pulled into the turnout and opted not to pop the top just yet but to have some snacks and relax for a bit.

Three or four crackers into our respite, a truck pulled in behind us. I hopped out and a ranger greeted me with, “What going on?”. I told him we were just having some snacks before dinner. He asked if we were cooking yet and I said no. He said, “Good because we’re locking the gate at 8:00PM and it’s 7:30 now and I wanted to be sure that no one was camping down here so…..”. I told him we’d follow him out and that was the end of our Bear Brook adventure. We do plan to stop back and check it out when they’re open! Here’s some stuff from an earlier post attempt…and below that, some show info.

Yesterday we had snow for the first time this season. There wasn’t a lot of it. Just enough to remind us that winter is here and it’s going to get chilly, snowy and dark very soon. I finished stacking the wood on Friday so we’re good there. I could sure stand to clean up the leaves and mow the grass back a little before more snow flies but we’ll see what happens!

Pammie and I took an overnight trip to Greenfield, NH this past Friday. The occasion was an In Ears ‘n Eyes performance at the NH State Council on the Arts’ 2014 Conference at the Barbara Harris Camp & Conference Center. It was Halloween and some small towns still trick-or-treat on Halloween so, once we got over on route 31 off of route 101, there were a couple places where we were detoured to let the little goblins have free rein of the street! It was great to see everyone out and dressed up.

That’s it for news for now, time for the show report. Come on out whenever you can. THANKS

Saturday, November 22nd, 7PM – In Ears ‘n Eyes, The Dance Hall Kittery – The Fall In Ear ‘n Eyes show is getting to be a tradition at the Dance Hall in Kittery. This time around we’ve got some new surprises. Jonny Peiffer has composed a new piece featuring Neoteric Contemporary Dance along with the musicians of IENE; Chris Klaxton, Taylor O’Donnell, Nick Mainella, Zach Lange, Scott Keifner, Eric Von Oeyen and Matt Langley. I have arranged a piece Roger and I riffed on at TEDx a few months ago. Scott kiefner, one of the newer members of the IENE crew, has a new piece and we’ll do some improv with dancer Jess Soucy of Neoteric. Come on out! Get Tix Here! More Info Here!

Monday, December 1st 6PM – The David Tonkin Quartet, The Barley House, Concord, NH – Great way to kick off December with David Tonkin at the helm, Don Williams and Tim Gilmore providing the sleigh power and Matt Langley appearing in the roll of droll elf with sax in hand. We jingle everything from jazz to rock but you’ll have to listen closely for Christmas quotes! Come on out and join the holiday festivities.

Saturday, December 6th, 6PM – SHANGO! The Press Room, Portsmouth, NH – Jonny Peiffer’s Fela Kuti band featuring a HOST of the seacoast’s finest takes the afro beat part to the Press Room for a night of trance dancing to infectious Fela grooves. This will be the last Shango hang before for the holiday season. Make it a point to join is!

The holiday season is upon us. Here’s a Holiday hug for ya. Spread it around!

  • Some catching up to do

Whoa! Got a little tied up in the back-to-school shuffle and forgot about keeping you up to date on my SHIT! Many, many apologies.

We’ve had some success getting out on the road recently with a trip to the Pittsfield Vermont area last weekend for some freecampsites.net hanging in the woods just outside of town. Then, a quick trip up route 100 to Killington for a hike ALMOST to the top…Sammie was too chicken to go all the way the up :)…then a quick trip down route 4 and back to the seacoast. Many fun miles but it seems the mutt can’t handle the hang any more and spends all his time standing in his crate and panting. Not the most enjoyable listening on a four or five hour drive!
Speaking of some enjoyable listening, I hope you’ll take the time to enjoy one of these upcoming shows! Thanks for stopping by!

Friday, October 24th – SHANGO! The Dance Hall Kittery, ME – 8PM – Jonny Peiffer’s Shango has been rockin’ some joints as of late with the music of Fela Kuti. Sometimes numbering in the low twenties in members, this band is an EXPERIENCE that SHOULD NOT be missed. Many rhythm section players laying down massive grooves with many horn players groovin’ and soloing, Stu Dias powerfully belting out Fela’s lyrics and many dancers on the bandstand movin and groovin to the Shango trance groove. YOU MUST SHANGO!

Saturday, October 25th – Mother Superior and the Sliding RoyalesFury’s, Dover, NH – 9PM – Taylor O’Donnell belts out some soulful original tunes with a FINE collection of fellas laying down the sounds. All original Soul with the emphasis on groove and SOUND! As it happens, this band sports the talented mr Stu Dias ina backing vocal, songwriting and guitar playing sorta role with his pal of the 12 notes, Mike Effenberger on keys, Mr. Funky himself, Zach Lange on trumpet, Mike Walsh kickin the tubs with Greg Glasson thumpin the Bass and yours truly barkin out the bari squawks and shrieks. Sounds enticing, eh?
