  • February finds us buried!

The Cabins at Shaker Road School

The weather. Seems it’s how I always start the post. Well, this time its for REAL! Today is a beautiful, crisp February day in Maine with a bright blue sky streaked with opaque , shapeless clouds. The ground is heaped with fresh, somewhat crusty, not icy, windswept blindingly white snow. We’ve had days of snowfall. I’m talking DAYS! A winter like you read about. The weather is the main topic of conversation and it’s been kicking our asses. BUT! I LOVE IT! This is what winter is all about, man! C’mon. THIS IS THE SHIT! If it’s going to be winter. BRING IT ON! Is that all you’ve got? I can still see out the second story windows. The dog has built tunnels to go shit in the yard. We can still get the cars out of the driveway as long as we get a running start, gun it and hope for the best. So, COME ON! Let it snow, *&^%*%#$^$#!

The ONLY drag with the white shit is all the havoc it plays with school scheduling and teaching and people going out to see shows and such. I totally understand. If it’s blowing like a bastard and you can’t see the coal on the end of your stogie, you probably shouldn’t be hopping on the Ruckus to head into town. Be safe. If you can pry open your front door after donning seven layers of long johns and so many scarves, mittens and facemasks that you can barely budge, come on out to one of these shows. We’ll help ya stay warm!

Friday, February 13th, PMAC Jazz Faculty Show, The Music Hall Loft – I may be too late letting you know about this one! With the likes of the incredible Taylor O’Donnell, Chris Klax, Jim Dozet, Nate Therrien, Mike Walsh, Russ Grazier and Matt Langley in the band. This one is probably sold out…BUT…Ya Nevahhh know, do ya!? We’ve got a wonderful night of music planned. Get your tickets here!

Sunday, February 15th, COLOR, Sonny’s Tavern, 7-10PM – Wait…is this a TYPO? COLOR? This band disappeared eons ago. WTF?!…THIS IS NOT A TYPO!!….Color is playing a show THIS SUNDAY! Get the kids, call grandma, load up the family truckster and bring your appetite ’cause this one is gonna be TIGHT! Chris Decato, Jamie Decato, and Matt Langley, on stage, trying to remember how all that Color shit goes. Gonna be EPIC!

Sunday, February 22nd, SOJOY, Sonny’s Tavern, 7-10PM – Jonny Peiffer’s little big band featuring his compositions arranged for a stellar cast of seacoast celebrities; Nick Mainella on Saxes, Eric Klaxton on saxes, Zach Lange on trumpet, Claude Fried on Bone, Matt Langley on saxes, Scott Keifner on Bass and the composer on drums. Wonderful music well played in a comfortable, welcoming environment with luscious food and cocktails. DAMN! Is it 2/22 yet?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Winter winds on

Here’s a little winter warmer from a recent Shango Gig. Thanks to Nevin Brown for taking a bunch of videos and pics that night. What a wonderful night it was too; dancing, dancing and more dancing! The Dance Hall Kittery was rockin’ and we all had a BLAST! Go see SHANGO and FURY’s on 2/6! I won’t be there because I’ll be up at Skunk Hollow Tavern in Vermont. Sorry, the Skunk was booked a long time ago.
