The Jazz of Spring

Spring has arrived in the Northeast with a chill in the air. It’s recital and concert season at schools and everyone can feel summer just around the corner. There’s a ton of great music at the Concord Community Music School and the Portsmouth Music and Arts Center. The Kids at Shaker Road School just had their concert and are now getting ready for Spring Fling! If you’re thinking of lessons or camp over the summer there are a TON of opportunities to learn and hang with some wonderful musicians at PMAC, CCMS, The New Hampshire Independent School of Music Summer Camp at Geneva point on Lake Winnepesaukee and so many more! I’ll be at the PMAC Jazz Camp in July and the NHISOM Camp for two weeks in August. If you need any info, contact me or click the links above!
Need a fix of live music? Know how you feel, man! Here are a few places that I’ll be playing at soon:
Sunday, May 19th – Mike Walsh Group – The Barley Pub, Dover, NH 8PM – Mike Walsh is a wonderful drummer with a joy for playing that comes through loud and clear in his music. Tonight He’ll have Chris Klaxton on trumpet, Nate Therrien on Bass and Matt Langley on Saxes. We’ll play a bunch of tunes that we like to play!
Thursday, May 23rd – According to My Dream – The Press Room, Portsmouth, NH 9PM – Drummer Frank Laurino is well known for his work with the Beat Night Band at the Press Room. Tonight he changes the landscape by kicking it downstairs and mixing up the band a tad. Scott Solsky will create his wash of guitar sonorities, Rog Gerry will explore the low end of the audio spectrum and Matt Langley will search for sound cracks and crannies while Mike Nelson’s prose ponder the realms of the imagination.
Monday, May 27th – Mike Walsh Group – The Press Room, Portsmouth, NH 8PM – Mike’s group finishes up the grueling Rockingham County tour with a stop at the World Famous Press Room in Portsmouth, NH. We’ll have Chris on Trumpet, Nate on Bass, Mike on drums and Matt on saxes. We’ll play more tunes we like to play!
Wednesday, May 29th – Charlie Kohlhase’s Saxophone Support Group – Douglass Street Music Collective, Brooklyn, NY – This is an reunion of a band Charlie had back in the ought’s. The name of the group sprang out of the fact that so many great saxophone players had time off to rehearse at Charlie’s place. Ten years later some of the group now resides in New York and we’ll head to the Douglas Street Collective to reunite on some wonderful music. This will be an incredible hang, especially if you like saxophones! Featuring Charlie Kohlhase, Josh Sinton, Dan Blake, Jared Sims, Sean Berry, Andy Voelker, Matt Langley.
