all aglow under the big top in cape elizabeth maine
A stunning location for a wedding with the Hip Pocket Orchestra

The summer weather is kicking in up here in the often frozen north and I’m diggin’ it. Bring on the heat! Had a great session yesterday with Ted Brancato & Carrie Coltrane finishing up some tacks for Ted’s upcoming CD. Can’t wait to hear it! Tomorrow I’m headed up to the Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield Maine to lay some saxomophone down on Jennifer Porter’s upcoming CD. Looking forward to hearing how that is coming. Getting ready for PMAC Jazz Camp next week. Looks like we’ve got a great crew on the way and I’m really looking forward to working with Charlie Kohlhase and Eric Hofbauer again. That’s the haps right now. Here are a few gigs you should come out to if you can.
Monday, July 2, 6PM – David Tonkin Quartet – The Barley House, Concord, NH – David’s just back from a vacation to New York City and other points on interest. I’m quite sure he’ll be telling some stories with his guitar tonight! Don Williams is on vacation this week so we’ll be joined by Mike Rossi on Bass. Percussionist extraordinaire, Tim Gilmore will tickle the tubs and we’re sure to have a guest or two. You?
Friday, July 6, 6PM – FTET – 3S Artspace Concert Series, Portsmouth NHMike Effenberger’s FTET Joins Jose Duque’s Group for a jazz concert at the 3S artspace loading dock concert series. We’ll have Mike at the B3, Jim Rudolf on the drums and Nick Mainella and Myself on saxes. Jose’s group features Nick as well so this should be a great night of music. Support the 3s artspace series by joining us and checking out their space too!
Sunday, July 8, NOON – Publik House Nonet – Prescott Park, Portsmouth, NH – The Publik House Nonet kicks off the Tommy Gallant Jazz Festival in Portsmouth’s Prescott Park. This will be a LOT of fun for sure with Erik Klaxton, Nick Mainella, Brandon Newbould, Zach Lange, Jimmy Clark, Eric Von Oyen, Rob Gerry and Mike Effenberger. Stick around after our set for many more great jazz groups and then head over to the Press Room after the festival for the after festival show and hang. A great day of jazz dedicated to the late, great Tommy Gallant, godfather of jazz at the Press Room and on the Seacoast. Thanks Tommy, we miss you but your spirit lives on and on and on and on………
That’s all for now. Thanks for supporting live music and the arts. We can’t do it without YOU!!
