Hot 12-note fun in the summertime!

Yeah, the rain has stopped and it’s getting nice and steamy. It must be time for summer gigs, music camps and festivals. I’ll update you on a couple gigs below, but first, let me plug the MUSIC CAMPS!
First, I’ll be running the PMAC Teen Jazz Camp with Guitarist and Obscure Trivia MASTER, Eric Hofbauer. We’ll play original music written for the camp by Chris Klaxton in the large ensemble made up of all attendees. We’ll also break up the group into two combos and Eric and I will each coach one of the ensembles. Music for the ensembles can come from just about anywhere but we’ll focus on improvisation, call and response, group interplay and arranging. This camp is always a GREAT TIME withTONS of great music as well as a little kickball and four square. We have a great group of kids enrolled BUT WE CAN ALWAYS USE MORE! If we can get a few more kids, we can get Charlie Kohlhase on the faculty roster. C’mon…sign up NOW!
Next up, The New Hampshire Independent  School of Music Summer Camp. This camp is run by Noelle Beaudin and Tom Robinson and takes place at the beautiful Geneva Point Center on Lake Winni. There’s jazz, concert band music, small ensembles, rock bands, jazz combos, you name it. PLUS, it’s an overnight camp and when the music activities are over for the day, you’re off to the lake or a host of other activities. The camp takes place during two different weeks and the second week in August is FULL….BUT….there’s still room in the first week. Checkout the link above and REGISTER NOW!!
Okay then, some giggage? Here we go:
Wednesday, June 26th, 8PM – Charlie Kohlhase Explorer’s Club –  The Lily Pad, Cambridge MA – 8PM – Kohlhase’s band of improvisers on this night consists of CK himself on saxes, Eric Hofbauer on guitar, Jef Charland on the Contrabass, Mike Connors on drums and myself on saxes. This will be a great night of Kohlhase’s originals mixed with his take on “jazz covers”. The Lily Pad is on of Boston’s Premier jazz rooms which now sports a BAR in the front corner!?. Won’t you join us, please?
Monday, July 1st, 6PM – David Tonkin Group – The Barley House, Concord NH – My good friend David Tonkin and I have been making music together for over 35 years! DANG! We’re getting OLD but, like a fine wine, WE’RE GETTING BETTER with age! Join us for David’s very unique take on “jazz”. Other longtime pals and musical cohorts Don Williams on Bass and Tim Gilmore on drums will be getting down too.
July sneak peek: Saturday, July 20th – 7PM – In Ears n Eyes – Buoy Kittery – Yup, another IENE is coming up! This one will feature a small band with Roger GoldenbergChris Klaxton, Taylor O’Donnell, Jonny Peiffer and ME. Rog will setup an exhibition of his work and we’ll kick it off with an IENE show.
