The PMAC Jazz Camp ended yesterday and I’d like to say thanks to all who made it such a success. Charlie Kohlhase, Jeff Galindo, Eric Hofbauer, Jeff Charland, Miki Matsuki and Russ Grazier all did a wonderful job helping the kids produce some great music. Thanks to Charlie Kohlhase for bringing along the John Tchicai piece for the big band. Thanks to all the kids that attended the camp and worked so hard on the material. The highlight for me was watching people take a turn conducting the big band improvisations. There are some pictures from the camp in the Gallery. More will be on the way when I get back. Thanks again and I hope to see you all again next year.
This month is crammed with great music. Right now I’m in the middle of the PMAC Jazz Camp at Little Harbor School in Portsmouth, NH. We’ve got a great group of kids and the instructors on hand are all members of Charlie Kohlhases’ Explorer’s Club. Eric Hofbauer was with up for the first couple of days this week before he headed down to NY for a gig. He’ll be back for 3 daqys next week. Charlie, Myself and Jeff Galindo have been here all week . We’ve got three ansembles running various tunes including a bunch of Charlie’s originals and a large group containing all 23 kids working on a chart by John Tchicai. They are doing a great job with some difficult music and it is sounding killin! Please get over to Prescott Park on friday, July 21st for the concert. We’ll hit at 6:30.
This sunday, July 16th, the Explorer’s Club will be at the Press Room in Portsmouth, NH. The music starts at 6:00PM upstairs. We’ll feature some new music in Charlie’s Super Hero series as well as a few others. Hope to see you there. Don’t forget to head up to Portland this friday for the last Jan Van Voorst Quartet gig this month. We’ll back on Friday, August 4th.
